Spinal Reticulation

These are some images in line with what I'm thinking of for my book project-- sculptural awareness of these interior spaces and fibers and structures... except I'm thinking of how two such structures can relate.

Finding the Tree(s)

As far as location for my outdoor sculpture installation(s), I am thinking about the trees behind the Art School, which are more or less small in stature and sparsely spaced in the field along the path that leads up from Fuller to A&D. They fringe the forest area, and might be a really magical kind of place to install my interacting sculpture form(s), to really engage that space. I'm going to talk to the space coordinator at A&D about this idea, but I'll be making preparations for 'mapping' the tree with chicken wire soon. I'm so excited!

Also, as far as the book experiment, I am thinking about the idea of 'spinal gesturing' and creating a physical sculpture from the wordplay of the 'spine' of the book. This is as far as I have gotten with this idea as of yet, but I am very excited!

Possibilities and magical forests are everywhere.
Just sayin'.

Ugly Raw Sculpture

just like i akin to some musical artist who have ugly beautiful voices, like Jeff Mangum, I do feel some draw towards the rawness of this guy Al Farrow's sculpture. Here are some examples of this aesthetic that I find both compelling and difficult to deal with:

And here is a link to some songs of Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel:

Wood Sculptures to believe in

Aaha, yeah. Some day man, gonna makes some sweet full-size human form wooden sculptures. These are really, really cool- I really like the surrealism and realism interplay!

This is so beautiful, the fragility of it, it really is moving to me.

And this is just sweet. like webbing between the fingers of a tree. So beautiful and delicate.
